The Russian expedition at Courland was stronger than the Germans imagined. The Russians have pressed forward since Saturday morning, the Germans falling back. It is believed that British submarines scared off the German warships. . _ . _ . Petrograd, October 24. A Russian official communique states: "Our landing party at Domesnees beat off a German detachment which was protecting that point." GERMAN OFFICIAL COMMUNINIQUE. . • . London, Ootober 24. A Berlm communique.states: "Russian vessels on the northern coast of Courland bombarded Petraggo, Domesnees, and Gipkeii, and landed weak forces at Domesnees." FURTHER SUCCESS IN THE SOUTH OPERATIONS ON THE STYR. . • . t . Petrograd, Ootober 24. A communique states: We captured eighty-eight officers, 3225 men, and a number of machine-guns on the left bank of the Styr, in the Komarovo-Kolkv districts. HEAVY FIGHTING IN THE RIGA DISTRICT ENORMOUS LOSSES INFLICTED ON THE ENEMY. (Rec. October 25, 10.25 p.m.) Petrograd, October 25. A communique states: "The Germans have captured the village of Repe, south-east of Riga. "Our fire near Klauge, northward of Repe, inflicted-enormous Josses on the enemy. > "A Zeppelin bombed several parts of Riga, but did not damage the military buildings. "There is vigorous fighting on the Dvinsk front. The Germans have occupied Illukst, after desperate street fighting and terrible enemy losses. "We captured several villages east and south of Lako Grath, and our fire shattered the enemy's furious counter-attacks in the Novo Alexinatz dist-riot."
