RED CROSS FUNDS

FURTHER CONTRIBUTIONS. • The following further subscriptions have been received by Mr. J. B. Finlay, secretary of the St. 'John Ambulance Association, towards tho Red- Cross Funds: —Per Mrs. Charles Bateson, Trentham, £23; wharf labourers' box collections (per 'Mesdames Brownrigg and- Rist and Miss Williams)', £11 2s. 9d.; postal note, 55.; total, £34 7s. 9d. The Mayor and secretary of the Empire Red Cross movement report that up to noon yesterday tho total of the street collections amounts to £481, and further donations to be acknowledged brings the grand total up to £847 13s. Mr. Luke expresses great satisfaction with the results., ' ' , The corrected total for tie post office and .wharves, collected by Mrs. Waters and assistants, is £114.55. 2d., including a. cheque from Messrs. M'Eldowney Bros for £5.

£1000 MARK APPROACHING. | Yesterday, with all the amounts not yet accounted for, the Red Cross special appeal had resulted in £835 15s. 3d. being collected. The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) last night acknowledged tho following donations, which aro included in the abovo total:—Mrs. Noel Adam 6, £20; Oppenheimer and Co., £5 55..; M. Eichelbaum, £2 10s.; J. Smith, jun., £1 Is.; postal notes from Tanmarunui, £1. Further donations aro still expected from Petone and Lower Hutt.

Mr. Luko expressed himself as highly satisfied with the result, and said that notwithstanding that a specific day had been set apart for the collection possibly other amounts would be coming in to swell tho total. He tendered his sincere thanks to all those who had taken part in the organisation, and also to the ladies who had gone to such pains in making the street collections. He also thanked all those who contributed flowers or in any way helped to raise the funds.
