POPE APPEALS TO KING ALBERT AN EMPHATIC NEGATIVE By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, October 21. The King answered in the negative, thanking the Pope for his promise to use all his influence to obtain the evacuation of Belgium as a condition of peace,_ and concluding by emphatically declaring that he would never lay down the sword while his country was in slavery.
