'A SIX MONTHS' RETURN. A half-yearly return for the period ended September 30, 1915, presented to the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board yesterday, gave the following particulars:— Number of in-patients admitted,, 2109j number of out-patients treated," ll,8o2; number admitted to Ohiro Home, 96; number granted oharitablo aid, 227; amount of cash received from all sources, £38,007; amount of expenditure, £36,669 ; comparisons with estimates, (under estimate), £245; comparisons with expenditure for tho same period in preceding year (under estimate), £712. Tlio following summary was given, tho figures in parenthesis being for a similar period in 1911 Hospital Patients.—Wellington inpatients admitted, 2270 (1852); Wellington out-patients treated, 11,852 (11,861); -Otaki in-patients, 112 (74); Otaki Sanatorium, 27 (31); totals, 14,261.(13,718). Charitable Aid.—Ohirc Homo admitted, 96 (99); out-door relief, 227 (231).

Receipts.—Head Office, £24,534 (£27.870); No. 1 Loan, £3490 (nil); Macarthy Trustees, £4000 (nil); Wellington Hospital, £5029 (£3923); Otaki, £216 (£393); Otaki Sanatorium, £241 (£189); Charitable Aid, £817 (£602); £38,328 (£32,977). Expenditure.—Head Office, £1185 (£1003); Public Health, £248 (£244); Native Nurse, £28 (£43);. No. 1 Loan, £1476 (nil); Macarthy Convalescent Home, £3977 (nil); Wellington Hospital, £22,471 (£16,523); Otaki Hospital, £744 (.£1084); Otaki Sanatorium, £1363 (£1456); Oliiro Homo, £2021 (£1738); Charitable Aid, £3477 (£2986); £36,990 (£25,079). Mr. F. Castle, in commenting on the figures, said that increased expenditure to the hospital had been largely due to the military oases. There were 60 beds now available for military cases. Ho thought tho staff should bo given every credit i'or the way in which they had handled tho extra cases. Tho ordinary expenditure exceeded the estimate'by £2429, mainly due to the above causa. . Mr. B. R. Gardener pointed out that the military patients were paid for by tho Government, and therefore had not cost tho Hospital anything.
