WOUNDED COLONIALS IN ENGLAND
COMPLAINTS ATTENDED TO. Br Telegraph—Prcae Association—Copyright (R-ec. October 21, 3.30 p.m.) London, October 20. The authorities are taking steps to grapple with the problems of the Australian wounded in England. In 'consequence of the cabled complaints, Sir George Re id approached the War Office, and the latter decided that in future no Australians would be discharged from hospital until they were unquestionably At. The War Office decided to enforce the regulation not to pay men when in hospital,a regulation hitherto waived in the case of the Australians, as the practice in some cases has led to drunkenness.
Provision has been made at Woolwich to accommodate five hundred Australian convalescents, and it is hoped to secure space for an additional five hundred. Inquiries are being made as to the possibility of establishing a hospital in tlio South of France to deal with special cases requiring a milder climate.
