Latest, mail advices from Sydnoy announce that the U.S. and A. Line's chartered steamer Indian' Monarch, which left New York on October 3 for Auckland and Wellington, has, owing to the landslide in the Panama Oanal, been diverted, and is now coming via the CJape route. When it is considered that the Canal shortens the journey from New York to Wellington by some 3070 miles, it can easily be seen that the diversion of .a vessel is a serious matter to tho shipowner. As the Indian Monarch's cargo is stowed for New Zealand first, it has not yet been decided whether. she will make a call at Australia en route, but sho might possibly tranship her New Zealand cargo there. In consenuencc of tho delay, it i& not probable that the vessel will make her appearance here until about December 22.
