QUESTION OF CONSCRIPTION VIEWS OF BISHOP JULIUS. Christchurch, October 20. At tlia Diocesan Synod of Christchurch, Bishop Julius, referring to the war, said: "While Lord Kitchener is silent, it is certainly no business of mino to venture an opinion on the question of compulsion. All of ns could wish that it wore possible to supply men and win tho war on the voluntary 6y«tem, but the Empire is not doing'its host, and "until it does thero is little hops of victory. We cannot be ioo thankful for tlio spirit of sacrifice manifest throughout the Empire, not loasfc of all in New Zealand. People liavo given their sons freely, and are not weary of giving of what else they have to give. Of course there are some, both here Mid at Home, making money by the x v?ar. No taxation can touch them more than it touches others; tlioy must be_ left to the Divine judgment of degradation."
