MAGISTRATE'S COURT

CIVIL BUSINESS A RESERVED JUDGMENT Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., presided at yesterday's civil sittings of the Magistrate's Court, when reserved judgment was delivered in the case of H. G. Anderson and Co. v. Holford and Co., electrical engineers, of Gisborne. The original claim was for £53 ss. 7d., but tho plaintiffs abandoned portion of tho claim, and sued finally for £41 16s. 6d., • alleged to bo due on a p.n., together with interest £3 13s. Gd. thereoil. Evidence had been hea<rd at Gisbomc and Hamilton in connection with the claim, and judgment was given yesterday for the plaintiffs for £45 10s. and costs totalling £10 lis. 6d.

DEFENDED ACTIONS. Kate Eleanor Murphy, married woman, of Trentham, sued J. J. Geauge and Sons, carriers, of Upper_ Hutt, to recover the sum of £3 10s. in respect of damage done to articles during removal operations. Tho Magistrate hold the defendants to be responsible, and gave judgment for Mrs. Murphy for the full amount, with costs totalling £3 Ms. Decision 'was reserved by the Magistrate in the case of Laery and Co., Ltd., of Wellington, v. T. Brierley, baker, of Wellington, an action to recover £36 as damages for alleged breach of contract. CLAIM FOR POSSESSION. ■ Alice Merry claimed possession of a, bouse from Alichael O'Connor, and also sued to recover the sum of £4 7s. for rent and damages. Judgment' was given for plaintilf for £2 17s. and costs lis., the Magistrate directing that a warrant for possession should issue on November 2 nest. UNDEFENDED CLAIMS. Cooper dealt with tho police cases in tho Magistrate's Court yesterday (iiorning. A month's imprisonment was imposed in tho case of Frederick Thomas Keeper, an old offender, who admitc-d the theft of an overcoat and a watch and chain from Jew's boardinghouse in July last'. Lilia-u Jukes was ordered to pay 20s. in consequence of damage done to a padded cell, the alternative being three days' imprisonment. She was filled an additional 10s. on a cliarge of drunkenness. Other persons convicted of drunkenness were penalised as follow: —Joseph Reginald Harding, £3, with tho option of spending a month in prison; Bruce M'Landers, £3, or a month's imprisonment; ai'.d Thomas Benjamin Revill, 10s., or 48 hours' imprisonment. 'A NEIGHBOURS' QUARREL. . Further evidence was heard beforo Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., in t'he cases arising out of a neighbours' quarrel at Rosoneath on September 30. Mrs. Eva Marie Meyer is prosecuting Mrs. Jeanne Christenson and Mrs. Benge for assault, and there is a crossaction. The hearing commenced last week, and was not concluded yesterday. It will be resumed on Tuesday next. -
