The local office has been advised that tho New Zealand Shlppintr Company's U.MaS. Rotorua, which left Wellington on September 9, continued her journey on to London from Teneriffc last Thursday. She is due Home to-day.

RANGATIRA APPROACHING HOBART. A wireless message has been received from tlis commander of tho Shaw-Savili liner Rangatira to the effect that ho expected his vescsl to arrivo at Hobart tomorrow. Tho Rangatira left London on Pcptcmbo'* 5, and 10 -duo a.t Auckland on Octcber 26, and at Wellington about November 1. The vessel is acting as the fortnightly mail steamer this trip. SHAW-SAVILt CHARTER A STEAMER. A cargo steamer of 4511 tons named the Ocean Monarch has been chartered by the Shaw. Savi.ll and Albion Company to take tho December loading berth in New Zealand for Home. The vessel is at present cn routs from London to Frcmautle. -MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Jtr. 0. In order to relieve the pressure on cargo space, the Karu will lis dispatched from here for New Plymouth this week-end. The barnuo Active, which has been eold to Australian buyers, has left Auckland for Whangaroa to load for Sydney. R.M.S. Corinthic is expected to leave London on Octobcr 29, nnd is due in New Zealand on December 14. The Corinna has SEO tons of southern cargo to put out here 10-day. She will go on to New Plymouth 1o load dairy produce for transhipment to R.M.S. Arawa. The Kaianoi leaves for Greymouth to-'Yiy to load timber for Sydney. A similar cargo will be loaded by the Woinori- this week for Melbourne, and she will be followed by tlifi Kamona from Kniparo. Thursday next, being show day at Napier. and also a general holiday, the departure of tho liinple from here for Napier and Gk'borne lias been postponed from to-day till to-morrow. Tho Arawa has been. The officers of the steamer Mimiro. which arrived nt Bluff last, week from Sydney, tell an oxciting t>le of their escape from a German submarine. Tile Mimiro left London on June 15, and when of? Worthing on June 17 sighted a German submarine on her bow, three-quarters of a inilo away. Tho Mimiro put on full steam, and zigzagged. After an exciting chase of two hours, the submarine, which was partly submerged, gave up the chase. She waa evidently of ail old type. Had the submarine not been sighted at thai distance, and immediate action taken, the Mimiro could not have escaped.

Isn route from Montreal to New Zealand ports, the New Zealand Shipping Company's chartered steamer Karamca left Sydney on Saturday. Auckland will be her first port of call, and Wellington should be reached about Octobcr 26.

The Niagara arrived at Auckland at 6 a.m. yesterday from Vancouver, via Honolulu and Suva, with 227 and 1100 tons of cargo. She was to have continue! her journey on to Sydney last evening. Having completed discharge of the New Zealand portion of her New York cargo, tho Muritai will leave hero for Melbourne at 6 a.m. to-day.
