A Soldiers' Party. Yesterday afternoon a soldiers'* party was given by Mrs. Harry Had field, of Paraparauhu, in the Sydney Street Schoolroom. Most of the soldiers who were present- were those who are in hospital at the Victoria Home, or else at the hospital itself, and they were conveyed to*the hall by motors, through the instrumentality of Dr. Morice. Billiards, cards, and songs and choruses sung by members of the Victoria League Concert Party filled in a very pleasant afternoon, and in addition to ihe soldiers themselves several friends of Mrs. Hadfield's were also present, and, with Mrs. Chatfield, assisted lior in entertaining her guests. Afternoon tea was set in tlio adjoining room, the tables having been arranged with laburnum, wisteria, and other flowers. Her Excellency the Countess of Liverpool was present for part -of tlio &fternoon, and among others who were thero wero: Mrs. and Miss Massey, Mrs. Coleridge, Mrs. Rolleston, the Rev. A. M. Jonnson and Mrs. Johnson and Miss Payne.Apparently the on© end and aim of the invalided soldiers is to get back to their comrades in tlio fighting line.

For the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. On Saturday last Alesdames Fox, Alagill, Blair, and Brodio organised another successful children's fancy-dress ball, which was held at the Seatoun Swimming Club rooms, in aid of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. Tho children's costumes were original and artistic, and ranged from a butcher boy to fairies. One of the fairies, Miss Payne, danced a sailor's hornpipe. A set of State Lancers was danced by Misses Bradley, Kennedy, Palmer, Brown, M'Grath (2), Blair, and Mantlile, and .Alastor.? Kennedy, Blair, Alexander, Fuller (2), Stitchbury (2), and Brodie. Tho girls wero especially good, and looked charming with their becoming costumes and gracefully dignified dancing. Tlioy reflected great credit on Mrs. Kennedy and Airs. Fuller, who spent much time in training them. Coif at Karori. The Karori Golf Club finished its 1915 season with a very enjoyable afternoon on Sat'urday last. A mixed foursome was played, and was won by Mrs. Henry and Mr. Boyes. After tea was over t'ho presentation of the trophies won during the season was mado by Mr. R. Hanlon, tho following being the winners:—For the ladies, Alesdames Henry, Hawson, Field, Atkinson, Misses Campbell, AVebb, Pearson, and Shearex, the last-named being the champion for 1915. The winners for the gentlemen were, Messrs. Atkinson, Rodmoud, Keesing, Jl'Beth, Al'Neil, Burnett, and Boyes, Air. Boyes being champion. At the conclusion of tho presentation of the tro- • pliies three spccial presentations wero made, Airs. R. W." Atkinson receiving a very handsome, solid silver jewel-box. This was from the ladies of tho club, in recognition of her services a.s secretary. Mrs. Nash, who was in charge of' the tea-room, was presented with a cheque from the players, and Mr. J. 31. Al'Corniick, tho club's coacli, received a silver cigarotte-case, engraved with his best score (which is a record for the course), as an appreciation, from his Karori pupils.

Eight Thousand Pounds for a Flag. In recent notes from Feildine, our correspondent stated that at a lccture wliich was given in the Drill Hall by Dr. Martin, a. flag was auctioned, which brought in over £800 for the benefit of the Patriotic Fund in Aid of the Wounded. The secretory of the Citizens and. Farmers' Union- Relief Fund Committee, Mr. E. H. Fisher, corrects an error t'hat was made, and states that tho_ facts'are as follows:—"On the 6th inst., Dr. Martin gave a lecture in the Drill Hall, Feilding, in aid of the' Wounded Soldiers' Fund. The house realised over £100, and during the course of the address a flag*, donated by Mr. E. Short,. was auctioned. It realised over £8000, of which amount Mr. E. Short and his family subscribed £2655."

Mrs. Boddington, who has been the guest of Mrs. West, in Bolton Street, for't'he past fortnight, returns to-day to Masterou. Mr. and Mrs. J. Tathmywho have boon spending a few days in Welling-, ton, return torday to "Homewood," Whareama. ' They are Accompanied by Miss Violet Warburton. 1 • Mrs. L. Crozier (Wanganui) is spending a week in Wellington. The sum of £32 195., collected by a committee of Maranui-Lya 1 ! Bay ladies, enabled them to forward yesterday .two cases of goods to the hospital ship Mararna, as premised to St. John Ambulance Association. The committee— Mcsdames Leach, Santler, Gentry, Sutton, and Evans—wish to thank all ladies who so willingly helped with both money and 1 sewing.
