VOLUNTEERS WANTED
-■ —»- FOR '£ RECRUITING CAMPAIGN. Volunteers are still required for the recruiting campaign which has its headquarters in the Town Hall, and which is presided over by His Worship tho Mayor. As tho office is open continuously from 9 a.m. to, 8.30 p.m., the present small band of enthusiasts in charge of the office is called upon to work somewhat long shifts. There must be plenty of patriots in tho City and suburbs willing to give two or three hours of their leisure to this work, which'at tho present time is the best service that those above military ago or rejected for unfitness can render to the Empire. A large number of the ladies of Wellington are working a three hours' shift every day at tho Defence Department records, and it is anticipated that once the necessity for helpers is brought prominently before the community there will be no shortage of men.willing to work similar shifts in the recruiting ofiices. With a sufficient number of volunteers availablo, a rota can''be arranged which will necessitate only a small sacrifico of timo from each. A special appeal is being made to the older members of the National Reserve and of the Bowling Clubs.
It is hoped by the executive of tho War League that tho Mayors of tho various boroughs in tho suburbs will follow tho load of His Worship tho Mayor of Wellington, institute recruitins campaigns in their respective districts, gather round them a body of volunteer recruiting officers, open recruiting offices at their respective municipal buildings, and stinvulate public interest in the. movement by posters, processions, and onen-air meetings. In every outlying district. too_, good work could be done by patriotic citizens forming themselves into committees for recruiting purposes. It need scarcely be said that in this campaign the War League is acting in harmonious co-operation with and under the directions of the Defence Department, and all citizens nro cordially invited to aid His Worship the Mayor, who is at the head of the movement.
The -present recruiting office is at tho Town Ffall, and nil information can be obtained from Captain Barclay, Recruiting Office. Town Hall, telephone 2281. Those -willing to assist are invited to communicate with him or with the act-ing-chairman of the executive of the War Lengue. Idr. H. ' p . von Hnasl;. telephone 1178 (offico hours), or 2245 jCaftar 5 p.m.), _
