VALOUR ON THE BATTLEFIELD. By Telegraph—Press Association—Oonyrlrlrt (Rec. October 18, '9.25 p.m.) London, October 18. Captain Shout, the V.C. hero, leaves a widow and a ten-year-old daughter. Besides his bravery at Lone Pine, he displayed great courage and self-sacri-fice two days after the landing at Gab a- .Tepc. A returned soldier relates that, although wounded himself several times, Captain Sliout kept picking up the wounded and carrying* thorn out of the firing lino. Ho saw him carry fully a dozen away.
Then another bullet struck him, and bis arm fell useless by Iris side, but he absolutely refused to go to the roar. A little later he was again -wounded, and fell. He declared: "I'm going to remain, boys, till the finish.'' He rose, staggered, and fell several_ times, and finally his comrades, despite his protests, carried him to safety.
