GERMAN TORPEDO-BOAT SUNK
COLLIDES WITH A FERRY STEAMER. By Telegraph—Press Association—OoonieM (Rec. October 19, 0.40 a.m.) Copenhagen, October 18. A German ferry steamer ■from Trolls borg (Sweden), steaming without" lights, collided with a largo Gorman, torpedo boat. The latter was cut in two and sank. Five were saved and forty drowned. The "Times's" correspondent at Paris reports that a copy ( of a Divisional Order, marked "strictly secret," which' was addressed to German officers, and signed "Bitfurth," was found on an officer. It states: "It has been observed recently that tho infantry have limited their action to defensive firing, iu order not to provoke, the enemy's reply, and when tho latter bombards our infantry immediately asks for artillery support, manifesting great satis* faction when tho attack ceases. Sucli conduct is emphatically to bo condemned, as tending to kill the spirit of tho troops, and convincing tho' enemy of his superiority. "All our efforts should be made with a viow to taking an early offensive, which will be the more difficult the longer it is delated. Commanders of brigades _ and regiments are urged to keep their defensives activity up to tho highest pitch. Instead of acting on the will of tho enemy, wo must imposo our will upon him, the troops utilising all their resources and ingenuity to do 6troy tho enemy."
