A communique states: "We have completely repulsed German- attacks in the wood of En Hache, Arthos, aud tho northern slope of tho Souchez Valley. "Trencli-to-treuch fighting continues south of ■ the Somme, Libons, and Quesnoy-en-Santerre. "The enemy is using tear shells (socalled because of the effect of their gasos upon the eyes) in the Champagne. "Bomb and grenade fighting is proceeding in the Argomie, north of La Houyette and Vauquois. ' "A vigorous counter-attack enabled us to recapture all the positions on the summit of Hartmannsweilerkopf, .and also to capture a fort.
