AND TWO DESTROYERS
BRITISH SUBMARINE EXPLOITS SERBIANS' SPLENDID .STAND / AUSTRO-GERMANS' HEAVY LOSSES BRITISH SUCCESS IN THE ' WEST ' : NEW ZEALANDERS DECORATED The news from the Balkan theatre to-day shows that the Serbians are fighting magnificently to save a most difficult and critical situation. Heavy losses, have been inflicted on. the Austro-Germans, and the Austrian Press, so it is stated, is adopting a more respectful tone towards this valiant antagonist. Rumania is still sitting tight, while Greece has indicated that she does not intend to help Serbia at present. Apropos of Greece's attitude, the Gormrvn newspaper "Vossiche Zeitung" hints that King Constantino is intriguing with King Ferdinand. Meanwhile the Allies have mustered 150,000 troops to deal • with the Bulgars and assist Serbia. In the West the.British have made a further advance, and maintained , their gains. Heavy fighting, with varying fortunes, is reported /from Champagne and the .Vosges. In the Russian theatre the enemy is being persistently and successfully harried. The best news of the day comes from the Baltic, where our submarines have been putting a mortal terror into the minds of German seamen. Their latest exploits include the sinking of six German transports and two destroyers, but official details are .. lacking concerning the latter exploit. ' -
