THOUSAND HELPERS WANTED
FOR RED GROSS DAY, Yesterday afternoon His Worship tho Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) consulted with tho local'executive of St.' John Ambulance in tiie Mayor's Room in connection with tho general appeal .to be mado oil-Thursday,- October 21, for funds for Red Cross work in Franco and the Near East, a request made through the Marquis of Lansdowho to His Excellency the Governor. It was decided that a big street - collection should be made in Wellington and suburbs on the arranged date, and'to that end an appeal is made for a thousand lady helpers. These and, anyone else interested are requested to attend, a meeting to he held in the Council Chamber on Monday evening next, at 7.46, when stations will be allotted, and final arrangements will be made as to tho badges, to. bo worn, when boxes will bo given out, and. the money paid in, etc. The appeal is one that is expected to find a- responsive echo in every heart—and pocket.
