PANAMA CANAL BLOCKAGE. According to the Sydney "Shipping List" advice lias been received that the landslide in the Panama Canal is decidedly serious, and it will.be the ond of November or early in December before it will be reopened to trafflo.
STAR OF AUSTRALIA'S MOVEMENTS. An arrival at Auckland yesterday was the C, and D. liner Star of Australia, She will discharge part of her cargo at the northern port, and will proceed thence to ■Whangarei to load meat. Napier and Wellington will be the vessel's next ports cf call, and she is due here about October 24. After loading frozen meat at southern ports the Star of Australia will go to Australia to load general cargo before proceeding to London. NOTICES TO MARINERS. This week's Gazette contains the following notices to mariners:— Auckland Harbour: Time Signal.—Referring to Notices to Mariners No. 77 of 1915, the Auckland Harbour Board has notified that on the nights when the time-signal is expected but does not come through, the red light will remain burning until 9.5 p.m., thereby notifying shipping that the signal has not been received. Charts, etc., affected: Admiralty Charts Nos. 1970 and 1896; "New 'Zealand Pilot," ei'ghth edition, 1908, Chapter "ii, page 41; "New Zealand' Nautical Almanac," 1915, page 260. Astrolabe Road: Beacon on Hapuka Reef. —Notice is hereby, given that a beacon has been erected on Hapuka Reef. Tho beacon is 22ft. high and 12ft. above high water. It has a oage surmount of sft. 2in. diameter. The buoy referred to in Notice to Mariners No. 92 of 1911 will be removed In about six weeks time. Captain Oox, late of the KokaTi' (ex Lauderdale), resigned command of the vessel to take up the position of harbourmaster at Greymouth., Captain Cox, who is wellknown locally, began -his seafaring career as apprentice on the barquo Mary Wadlcy —now - only a memory to most waterfrout identities, but a fine vessel in her day, which ran. in conjunction with the old Silver Cloud. After leaving that vessel he joined the ship Gladstone, and whilst one ot her crew passed his examination. IHe followed the sea in various craft thence onward, until he secured the position ol' harbourmaster at Nelson, a port ho relinquished iautr to ioin tho Maoriland S.S. Company, in which employ he remained right up to the present. Mr. J. Hall, chief officer of the Maitai, has been appointed chief of the Manuka. Mr. Paul, late of the Arahura, has joined the Maitai as chiel.
Mr. 0. Anderson has joined the Tarawera as sccond officer.

The Union pomipany's Kamona was to have left Wellington for Picton, Onehunga, ICaipara, and Australian ports at midnight last night. Her departure was postponed, however, on account of a shortage iu her crew.
Tho Corinna will leavo here for Nelson and New Plymouth on Monday next. At the last-mentioned iport she will lend 11,000 boxes of butter and 3COO crates of cheese for transhipment to the Arawa for London.
Advice has been received -by tho local office of tho Union Company that the Waihemo is on her way down to Wellington from San Francisco with a full load of general cargo.
Tho Arawa is duo at Auckland from Lyttclton to-day. Wellington will be" visited on October 21, and iinal departure taken from hero for London.
Laden with 3500 t-ons of coal, 81 tons of limber, and 41 tons of coke, the Koromiko is duo in port from Newcastle either on Monday evening or early Tuesday morning.
From the Bluff tho 0. and D. liner Mimiro will come on to Wellington, being duo on Octobcr 22. Departure will be taken on Octobcr 24 lor London, via Australia. Advices havo been received by tho Vacuum .Oil Company's Auckland branch that the steamer Barou Oawdor is expected to arrive at Auckland on Octobcr 28 from New York, via Panama. Sho left Now York on September 18, and brings' between 50,000 and 60,000' cases of oil for Auckland. The Baron Ogilvy will bring a similar cargo for the same company, and is due to arrive at the samo port about tho middle of December. The British Imperial Oil Company's steamer Physa will arrive in Auckland in the fii'6t week, of Novcmher with a cargo of oil from the East Indies. Bound for Loudon, tho New 55caland Shipping Company's Rimutaka left at 1 p.m. yesterday. The same company's Turakina arrived in iport from London, via Auckland, yestorday oftcrnoon.
To-morrow the New Zealand Shipping Company s chartered steamer Kara-mea is expected to leave Sydney, in continuation of her journey from Montreal to Kew Zealand port!. Sh.e is duo here about October 29,
