' At the annual meeting of the South British Insurance Company, the chairman said that, despite war conditions, the revenue on. the whole had been more than maintained. The premiums on the underwriting account amounted, to £553,296. Tlio losses, after making provision for those outstanding, were more than in- the previous year by £57,198, but the ratio to premiums was less, being 51.89 per cent., against 52.71 in tho previous year. The balance at credit of the underwriting ac-count-is £67,116, being £7054 more than in the previous year. The assets for the first time exceeded a' million in value—namly, <£1,094,963.: The. company had noarly 60 men in arms or 'iu training, .and the position of every man who had enlisted would be kept for him, and he would receive half salary in addition to his military pay, METAL MARKETS.
