LOWER HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL
A meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council was held on Tuesday, theret being present: The Mayor (Mr. H; Baldwin), and Councillors Hodgins, Meldrum, Carver, Brassel, Clcndon, M'Dougall, and Hobbs.
The Recreation Ground Committee recommended that the Hutt Cricket Club should be charged £1 Is. per pitch, £2 2s. for the use of the pavilion, and that last year's balance be remitted. The council adopted' -the recommendation.
Some discussion ensued in respect to a communication from the secretary of the New Zealand Catholic Federation, in reference to tho unwholesome nature of many of the pictures shown in Now Zealand, and suggesting that certain steps be taken with a view of remedying this evil. After some discussion it was resolved that a letter be sent to the Minister of Internal Affairs, asking that legislation be introduced to cops with the evil. The council also appointed the Mayor as delegate to attend a conference, of representatives ill rospoct to this matter.
Recommendations from the Footpaths and Roads Committee were ; received for tho expenditure of about £1700 on various road improvements; also recommendations from the Works Committee.
The engineer's report showed that the oxpenditure for the fortnight ending October 5 had been: District fund acoount £180 Bs., and gas account £13 14s. lOd.
