TRANSPORT OP TROOPS

RETURNING WOUNDED

TO LAND AT PORT CHALMERS

Owing to the fact that the transports' will havo to leave again almost immediately, the ships bringing the sick and wounded men Dack to New Zealand will make Port Chalmers their first port of call, and: the. men will bo distributed to their homes, or to convalescent homes or hospitals, from that port. The ships are expected about tho end of next week. The reason why Port Chalmers has been made the port of call is that the ships can be re-conditioned ready for sailing again at that port more expeditiously than at any other port. The departure of the ships has to be expedited on tho next trip, because of the intention of the Government to hasten the sailing of the next draft of reinforcements. A new scheme has been adopted by which men will bo taken ink) camp every month, and a contingent will sail erery month, but this plan will not como into full operation until February. The men who come into camp this month will leave at the end of their period of training iu tho ordinary way, and the men who .will come in next month, the first draft really affected by the new scheme, will not icavo until February. The changed plan will not involve more than about a week's diminution of the period of training.
