RUSSIANS FIGHTING WINNING BATTLES
The gravity of tho new situation in the Balkans begins to assumo its true perspective in the light- of the Press comments which are coming through. There is a general agreement oh the point that there should be more explicit and systematic co-ordination by tho Allies in tho conduct of this titanic war. Tho French Press insists that-the operations in the Western theatre should not bo prejudiced by tho withdrawal of troops for dispatch to the Balkans, while the British "Globe" discusses the crisis in its relation tq our operations in tho Dardanelles. It is contended by a French writer that Russia and Britain, of all the Entente Allies, havo most at stake. As regards the actual fighting, tho Serbians report enormous losses on both sides during the fighting at Belgrade. In the Eastern theatre the Russians are gradually developing an energetic offensive on various sectors of their front, and severely punishing their enemies. Steady progress is reported from tho Western theatre. Sir John French sums up tho recent repulso of the Germans'terrific counter-attacks as-a serious reverse.
