CARELESSNESS ALLEGED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, October 12. Mrs. Melvine, a resident of Greoniane, received a bundle yesterday containing the effects of Charles Gordon Campbell, her nephew, , who enlisted with the " 2nd Reinforcements; The bundle contained a tag intimating that the property was that of a deceased soldier. This was .the first intimation she had of the lad's death, though she was next-of-kiu, -the.' mother aud father being both dead. She suffered a. terrible shock. Nelson,, October 12. With reference to a resident of Greenlane receiving a' bundle of a deceased soldier's clothing, a Nelson parent, J. Garvin, "received a similar parcel last week. Replying to. inquiries, the Defence Department stated that it was possible the. soldier- had been .wounded and removed "to a\ hospital ship. Yesterday the Garvins received a letter from their son to,that effect. .
