VETERANS' HOME
—o BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEET. The annual general meeting of the Board of Governors of the .'-Veterans' Home, Auckland, -was held in _ tho I'Cabinet Room, Government Buildings, I yesterday. His Excellency, the Governor presided. The annual report and the • balancesheet for the year, ended June 30, 1915, were read and adopted, and the balancesheet and report ,of the home were re-ceive4-and read. The capital fund has during the past year increased 1 from £10,140 to £10,440. For the first time since the inception of the home no assistance has been received from _ any source outside the annual subscriptions, but this is only what was expected, seeing that the proceeds of all entertainments are going'to the Patriotic Funds.' Thirty-nine Veterans are now- being maintained in tlio home. • There are three of the origiual -members of tho home remaining. Among and in posses, sion of tho resident Veterans are three Crimean medals, three Turkish, four Indian Mutiny, one Afghan, one Kandahar Star, one Khedive Star, and 28 New Zealand medals. . Building repairs and renovations have been carried out at a cost of £144. His Excellency the Governor was reelected president, the Hon. Edwin. Mitchelson was ro-elected lion, treasurer, and Colonel R. J. Collins, C.M.G., was re-elected lion, secretary. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr. Alfred Kidd and the Auckland Committee, also to tlie chaplains, medical and dental officials, auditor, and legal adviser, who have given their services gratuitously for the benefit of the institution, and the board noted with pleasure the good work done by tho Superintendent (Major Carpenter) and his staff. For the ensuing term- the Board of Governors will be as follows:—His Excellency tho Governor, the Right Hon. W. F. Massey, SI.P., the Right Hon. Sir J. G. Ward, Bart., K.C.M.G., the Hon. Edwin Mitchelson, BrigadierGeneral A. W. Robin, C.8., C.M.G., Colonel R. J. Collins, 0.M.G.. LS.O, the Hon. A. M. Myers, M.P., and Messrs. H. C. Tewsley. J. B. Coates, and A. Kidd.' Other officers will bo: — Trustees, the Hon. E. Mitcholson and Mr. J. B. Qoates;. lion, treasurer, the Hon. E. Mitchelson;- lion, secretary, Colonel R. J. Collins, C.M.G., 1.5.0.
