HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLED MARKET EEPORT
The Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated London, October 10. (Note-Quotations, unless otherwise specilled. are average market prices on spot):—. Mutton.—A good demand continues owing to a, short supply available for tlie general public. Canterbury, 7 3-Bd. ner lb tor light-weight; heavy-weight, 7d.; other brajids than Canterbury cannot be quoted Ewes, a very brisk demand owing to a scarcity of wethers, 5Jd. per lb. Lamb.—There is less demand owing to a large supply of Home-grown lamb, selling at a comparatively low price. Canterbury twos, 8 l-Bd.; heavy-weight fours, 7}d.-second-class Quality light-weight, 7Jd.; other' brands than Canterbury, 7Jd. Beef.-Ordinary quality New Zealand beef cannot be quoted. Supplies of American chilled beef are large. Hinds, 7Jd.; fores, 55a. per lb. .
Butter.—The market remains firm, but on account of high prices there is less dema L ni J? T Quality. Danish, auiet, per cwt., 2055. to 2095.; Siberian, a good demand for finest. 1265. to W2s.; Irish creamery slow, 1725. to 180s..
Cheese'.—Tho market'is quiet, but steady. Prices are uiiq. C&n<idinn, n, fair demtind per cwt., 765. to 775.; coloured, 775. Un to 78s ; English Oheddar and Ohesire, firm a moderate demand, 945. to 965.; New Zealand, steady, white and coloured, 765, to 775.; United States, a good demand 72s to 745.; fine quality, 68s. to 70s. Hemp—Manila: The market is dull, with a downward tendency for forward shipment, owing, to a poor demand. The spot market is not affected so far. New graded fair for shipment, per ton, £38 to £38 5» The output from' Manila for the week was 20,000 bale?. New Zealand; The market ia steady, but tho demand is only moderate Quotations. for shipment: Good fair, per ton, £33; fair, £31". Value of high-points on spot, about £32 10s. Tow—Tow is still offering at last quotation, but buyers ore holding back. Cocksfoot.—Tho market is quiet, but firm Good Danish quoted at 84s. to 85s ex warehouse, Wheat—The market remains firm.
