A REPLY TO "CROAKERS." By TVslcfi?apli—Press Association—Copyright ("Times" and Sydney "Sun" Services.)] (R-cc. October 11, 5.5 p.m.) , London, October 10. Sir Edwin Pears (the distinguished authority on tho Near East) writes:— "Tho croakers who are alleging that the winter conditions in the Dardanelles will cut off communication with Gallipoli know nothing. Tho equinoctial gales are not serious, and are always followed \by a- beautiful Indian summon during October, November,- and December, "with light southerly winds.::.; The! weather breaks about Christmas week, and becomes cold, with severe snow and rain, and slush everywhere. For about ten weeks big westerly' seas break on Gallipoli, but we occupy Imbros, which is twolvo miles from Anzac, where thero is shelter for ships, whilst the Anzaa headlands will shelter tho soldiers."
