A French eye-witness, describing , the' fighting in Champagne on October 7, says:—The German battalion at Navann Farm belonged to tho Tenth Armjj Corps from the Eastern front, and ;urfered severely from, our'artillery. Tha enemy was prevented from removing his wounded, and cut. off in tie rear and. exposed to squalls of shells until only five hundred remained. These surrendered. . They had been without food and water for four days.
