The anniversary of Captain Cook's first landing in' New Zealand was colebra ted to-day . by the laying of breaths on Cook's monument from the Royal Colonial Institute and- local bodies. .A cable was received from the Institute of the Londpn- Council of Fellows of the Royal Colonial Institute: —"Wo heartily join in reverence for the memory of Captain Cook, who opened the southern seas for tlie British race."
