CARTERTON NEWS
The local Brass Band held a, social at Clareville oil Thursday evehing last as a farewell to bandsmen and other recruits who aro leaving for the front. The young soldiers were: .Ptea. Kay, John Grant, J. Phillpotts, W. Ilathbone, and Stan. Sewell, and each one received a parting presentation. The presentation to Pte. Sewell. was subscribed for by the residents of Anderson's Line, where his people reside. Music was provided by the band l and Mr. R. Crawley. All the recruits, with the' exception of Pte. Grant, tvlio received a wristlet watch, were given a 6et of handsome ebony military hairbrushes.
Messrs. F. J. Hull, J. A. Dudson, and W. J. O'Meara have bcvn appointed a deputation from the Carterton Chamber of Commerce to confer with tho postal official who is to visit tho district shortly, in company wit'.l the member for the district, in reference to improved mail services.
