News has been received in Wellington that Dr. James Mackintosh Bell, formerly Director of the Geological Survey Department in New Zealand, has been, appointed a Ist captain in the 73rd Battalion, C.E.F. (Canadian Black .Watoh), sth Royal Highlanders. ; Mr. W. A.' Hislop, who lias been ap< pointed field secretary for New_ Zenland in connection with the Youn<* Men's Christian Association movement amongst tho troops in Egypt, was entertained in Ghristcliurc.li at teaby, friends, at the Young ilen's. Chnstuin Association's Buildings prior to hip departure for Wellington.- Mr. Hislop was born in Milton, and for some time was assistant-secretary to the Young Men's Christian -Association in Dunodiii.
