PORTION OF A TOTALISATOR LOST
Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., presided at tho civil sittings of. tho Magistrate's Court yesterday. A defended case was that in which tho New Zealand Express Company sued tho Huddart-Parker Proprietary Co., Ltd., to recover the sum of £21 Ss. 6d., being the value of a package (containing portion of a totalisator) allegedly shipped by the plaintiffs through the defendants to tho HajwkVs Bay Jockey Club, and not received by the consignees. ' Mr. A. M: Thomson appear.ed for the Express Co., while Mr A. W. Bhir appeared for tlie Huddart-Parker Co. The case had been partly heard in C'hristchurch, and, after hearing further evidence yesterday, tho Magistrate reserved decision'. NONSUITED. In the case of A. Taylor and Sous v. James S. Scotillar, a claim for £36 10s. 'Bd., the plaintiffs were nonsuited, and the defendant was allowed £2 2s. solicitor's fee. ' UNDEFENDED CLAIMS. JUDGMENT SUMMONS. F. G. Millman, defendant in a, judgment summons, was ordered to. pay G. H. Lyster/and Co. the sum of £27 18e. 9d. 011 or before October 21, in default to undergo 28 days' imprisonment; ' POLICE CASES. Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., heard tho police prosecutions iii tlie Magistrate's Court_ yesterday morning. George Francis Healey, foij' whom Mr. H. F. O'Loary. appeared, was remanded for a week 011 a maintenance charge. Bail was allowed in the sum-of £20.
Jolm Thomas Oliver failed to. answer when his name was called on a cliarge of druukenness, and he was-ordered to forfeit, his bail of 20s. Ernest Cox, on u c'hargo of drunkennessj was fined 55., tho alternative being 24 hours' imprisonment. Two first-offenders were also dealt with. '
