LOWER HUTT COURT
Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., presided over the monthly sitting of the. Lower Hutt Court held yesterday. ■ Messrs. J. Cudby and J. AVilkin were also on the bench. For; allowing stock to wander, the following'were dealt with as under:— Earl Skinner and W. Cottle, fined 10s., with 7s. costs, in default 48 hours', imprisonment. . Thomas , Burt (three, charges) ,was fined 10s. in each case, with 7s. costs, in default 48 hours' imprisonment. G. Wootton, P. Buick, N. Berg, E. Meyrick, Edward Hayes, W. Randall, E. J. Bell, and William Strand wero each fined 55., with the usual costs and alternative. Several cyclists were charged with riding on the footpath, contrary to the borough by-laws. Tlio offenders were dealt with as under:—Rupert Lindsay, Charles Moor, Walter Barney, Jesse Walshara, C. J. Cullon, George Thompson, Victor Lusty, and Edward Hayes were each mulcted in a penalty of 55., with the usual costs; while three youtha —Leo Collins, Percy Bowers, and Richard Bowers—were each fined 55., without costs. • Territorials who were charged with' failing to fulfil their obligations wero dealt with as follow:—Archibald Garner was fined £3, in default 14 days' military detention. Harman Fitzmaiir-, ice, an old offender, was penalised in the sum of £2, the alternative being fixed at seven days' military detention. In tlio case of Anthony Oonro.y a fine of 10s., with the usual alternative, was imposed; while Harry John Barlan was lined 205., in default 'three davs' detention. Roland ■M. Morris, wlio was similarly charged, was convicted and discharged. ' CIVIL ACTIONS. Judgment was given for plaintiff h.v default in the following undefended cases:—Harry N. Westbury v. G. R. Smith, 19s. 3d., costs 75.; same v. H. C. Wilkins, 16s, 5d., costs 95.; Henry Thiscoll v. George A. M'llvride, £4 2«. Gd., costs 55.; Hutt River Board v. Peter Heyes, £2 15s. Bd., costs as." In a. judgment summons case, Gadshy Bros. v. Peter Dixon, a claim for £15 Os. Id., defendant was ordered to pay the amount on or before 20th instant, in default to undergo fifteen days in gaol. __________
