NOTES AND COMMENTS

IBr Glencos.l Owners are reminded, that acceptances for the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's Spring Meeting close to-night. The Australian Jockey Club's Spring Meeting will be continued at Kandwick to-day. Amongst the events •to be decided are the Craain Plate, weight-for-age, one mile and a quarter,, and the Gimcrack Stakes, for two-year-olds. In the first-named event the best horses of all ages will meet, including Caion, Woorak, Mountain Knight, and Wallace Isinglass.

Jhe Hawko's Bay Hunt Club meeting will be held on Friday., and the Jockey Club will race on Saturday.

Jockeys A. J. JlTlinn. and W. Bell are leaving for the south to-night to ride at the Dunedin meeting, which opens oii Friday, Four ■ Christchurcli stables will bo represented in the Dunedin Stakes for two-year-olds, and there will be no contestants from others parts. . Sir Geo. Clifford and Mr. C. G. Dalgety will each start two, and Mr. P. Rutherford and Mr. J. B. Eeid one each. The Guineas, which is also run on the opening day, is made more open 'by the withdrawal of Nones. Wishful, Redshire, Snub, and Battle Eve are the probable startors. Blackall made his debut "for the present, season in tho Park Stakes on Saturday, but it wns a most disappointing one. He was little fancied, and never threatened danger, being one of the last to finish.

"\Villiam_ tlie Silent, who iron, tho Trial Stakes at'Kandwick and was runner-up 111 the Metropolitan Handicap, is an Eng-lish-bred horse, by tho noted sire William 'the Third, from Silent Lady, by Cytlene. He is engaged in the Caulfield Cup with the minimum .impost.

Acceptances for the Masterton meeting close on Friday night at 10 o'clock.

Monday next at 9 p.m. is the time of closing, of entries for the Wellington Racing Club's Spring Meeting. i

Deneb, who ran such a good Tace in the Miiribymong Trial Stakes at Flemington on- Saturday, is the two-year-old full-sister to Oio Now Zealand Cup candidate Three, being by The Welkin— Teppo.

Patrons of the Wellington Racing Club need have iio fear'.about being: present at Trentham on October 23 and 25, as the work ,of fumigating the buififings is at 'present being carried out under, tlie direction of the Public Health authorities.

It is unfortunate that Imputation will not be at Trentham to once again measure strides with Warstep in the Champion Plate. A big.entry is^ expected for tho .rice in question, and "if Chortle, Wafatep, Nones, Hylatus, Desert Gold, and ; Wishful: meet the event should be well 'worth witnessing. .

'.'Already G. Price has decidcd that he . will.'.take half a dozen horses to. Trentham, and'accoramodation has been booked, for tlmt nidnber.

.'lCilboyne, who is to-carry Mr. J. B. Heiil's .colours in the Dunedin Stakes, is by the impox-ted Kilbroney, from Ai'ai-te-. TJru, <lnm of Taringamutu. Sir Jas. Carroll owns a yearling full-brother to ICilboyne. ■ ' '

The stallion St. Serf was recently , destroyed in England on accoujit of his old age. The Welbeck stud, where he stood, h*9 still got William the Third, who is one of the leading sires in England.

The.Porirua horses Rockbound, Sabaaa. Naujiata, and Stepney were railed to Hasting yesterday, and will take part in the Hunt Club and Jockey Club meetings this week.

In view of the fact that Eeputation did not.stand three Taces too. well at Ellerslie at Christmas, his owner may,; have, given 'instructions that he'is, fx) forfeit his engagement in. the ■ Craven Plate to-day. Another unlikely starter, is the three-year-old Cetijno,- who raced on Saturday and Monday.

When ' Woorak won the Craven Plate at Randwick last year he .put up an Australian record for the distance, viz., 2min. 51sec. On that occasion ho wns favoured with a Hying- start, and should he win' to-day it is safe to' assert ho will not-equal last, year's time.

After the Otalci meeting B. Deeley went homo to Auckland to consult his medical advisor about a chest ailment received when f Banksia fell with him at Wanganui. As the crack horseman won two races at Napier there can foe little wrong with him.
