- : j . A. meeting of the Society for the Pre- 1 vention of Cruelty, to Animals was held yesterday, Mr. W. Watson presiding. The inspector (Captain Henry) reported that several cases had come under his notice, all of which had'been satisfactorily settled. Subscriptions had been received from the following':—Mrs* W. Nathan and Union Steam Ship Co., 1 guinea each; Miss C. S. Richardson, £1; New Zealand Shipping Co. and' Mr. T. King, 10s. 6d. each; Messrs. C. Smith, Ltd., IDs.;Messrs. Davidson and Co., 7s. Gd.; 'Messrs. R. A. Holmes, Wright, Stevenson and Co., Hirst and Co., O. and R, Beere, and T. Page. ss. each; Mr. G. Pearce, 3s. Gd.; "2Lloyd Street," 35.; Messrs. Marchant, Eason, J. G. Turner, A. R. Brooker, G. Wilton, H. B. King, "Friend," "B. B. and Son," "J.F.C.," "R.H.M'E.," N. A. Stevens, and "T.W.," 2s. Gd. each; Mr. W. C.
