A PATRIOTIC SUGGESTION
TO RAISE FUNDS FOR MILITARY HOSPITALS. V Mr. A. P. ..Whatman, of Mastcrton, who has given freely towards the various relief funds, and'has been prominent in the patriotic movements in the Wairarapa, has, says our Masterton correspondent, made the suggestion that each 'wool-grower of the Dominion should this season donate one fleece per bale of wool to the Imperial authorities for the provision and maintenance of military hospitals. The suggestion is that the appeal be made through the Farmers' Union, that the wool he collected and sent Home as a special shipment, and .that it .bo carried free on tho railways. 'As the output of wool Is approximately 500,000 bales, equalling £10,000,000 ai Is. per pound, a contribution of ono fleeco per bale, or 2 per cent., would represent at least £200,000. > It. is further proposed that dairymen and grain-growers .-'might alsio' contribute 2 per cent, of their output, and the merchants 2 per cent, of their profits to the same object. Tho suggestion is meeting with the hearty endorsement, of settlers in the \Vairaraga. :■
