WESTPORT-REEFTON RAILWAY
By Telegraph.—Press Association, WESTPORT, October 3. 'A deputation is leaving Westport for Wellington to-morrow morning to place beforo the Minister of Public "Works reasons why the decision in tho Public Works Statement.to do nothing further on the Westport-Reefton railway this year, beyond completing \ the faccs, should be revised. Tho public meeting which decided to'send tho deputation to Wellington could not understand the Minister's decision to do no additional work at present. It- was stated that close on £30,000 had been expended .on tho work, and unless construction of the line, were expedited all this would be idle capital. The deputation is armed with the fact that tho Government Geologist has stated that tho Inangahua Valley and the immediato surrounding district which tho lino would open up contains one of the largest beds of coal in New Zealand. Tho timber rostructs are also known to he of great value for mining and building purposes.
