: —b-. ■ Tho French Club on Thursday night devoted most of the evening to the consideration of a well-known work, "Letters from My Mill," by Daudet. Madame do Cleenc, senior, read ait episode of the present speaking of some Prussian soldiers in an old chateau of France. Madame do Cleone, junior, then introduced the. main piece of tho evening, giving a general account of the book, and reading very clearly and expressively some choice extracts. Miss Gibson/" Madame ltaynal-Matejka, Miss Mead,-and Madame Dechanet-M'lntosh also contributed extracts from the book. Mr. Cooke, who presided, proposed a hearty voto of thanks to Madarno do Clccne and those who had assisted, and tho voto was carried by acclamation.
