Tecriuting tour, and' was .standing in: -a dinghy talking to a recruiter when a native suddenly struck him on the neck with an axo, almost severing his 'liead. The crime ; is ; inexplicable, as the Maidra boys were quite well known to '•arid liked Laycock.,; : • ' The murderer escaped to the bush.
