The "Star's" Tonga correspondent writes, under date September 17: —We are going through one of the longest droughts in' the history of Tonga. There have been fifty deaths in Vavau through starvation and bad. water. ' Tho King held a big meeting,; at which every taxpayer was present. All were urged to assist with food, etc. • Tho Government intends supplying food, but there is so much delay that the relief in many cases may be too late. The Prime .'Minister intends to visit the worst places and alleviate the distress.Tonga was never in such a' bad state as at present.
