VESSELS CHANGE HANDS. . Advice litis been received that three welllmown traders to New Zealand—two sailers and a steamer—have changed hands recently. The barque . Hazel Craig, one of the smartest sailors ot the Australian-New'Zea-land fleet, has been acquired by Mesere. W. Bleakley and Co., of Sydney. Captain Proctor, late of the barque Lindstol, will liavo charge of the "Hazel." The well-known barque Active, 699 tons, at present at Auckland, has also changed hands, having been purchased by Messrs. 0. Lundon and Sons, of Sydney. She woo originally known as tho Kothesay Bay. Her new owners will change her name as soon as she is handed over.. The. other sale reported is that of.. the F. and S. liner Surrey. She has been' acquired by Blue Star Line, Ltd., London, in a damaged condition, for under £35,000.

S.S. MOUKA PURCHASED. It -was announced recently in these columns that ij. was understood that the Union Company's Moura had been purchased. News received by the latest mail from Sydney confirms, inis statement. It transpires that tho vessel ha been acquired by Messrs. Lane and Dawson, of Sydney, and she -will proceed to. China, whero she will enter tho coastal trade. The Moura is a twin-scrow steamer of nearly 2500 tons- register, and she was originally lmown as the North LycLl. Tlie vessel has accommodation for 250 first and eccorfdclass i passengers. From Auckland, where 6he is at' present, the Moura will proceed to Newcastle to load coal for the Philippines, and then go on to Ttong Kong.

VANCOUVER MAIL STEAMERS.. K.IT.S. Hakura left Sydney for Auckland yesterday. She is due at the northern, port on Monday next, and will sail for. Vancouver, via Suva and Honolulu, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. October 5. . ' '

" R.M.S. Niagara left Vancouver for Auckland, via Honolulu; and Sura, oil September 29. She is due at Auckland early on the mornina of Monday, October 18, and will leave for Sydney the same day.

KAIKOURA AND KARMEA. Under charter to. the F. and S. Line, the Kaikoura arrived at Auckland from Liverpool at 8.30 a.m. yesterday. She will arrivo here on. Thursday or Friday of next week. The A. c-nd A. Line's chartered eteamer Kaxoma also arrived at Auckland' from New York yesterday-.morning. Sho is expected to get away for this port to-mor-row evening ajid should shotv'np on Tuesday morning.

MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Captain Kendall, of the Kauri,'has come, ashore for orders. Captain W. J.' Swales-Eyre, late chief officer of the Manuka, 'has taken charge of the Waipori. Ma'. G. H. Madden, second officer of the Manuka, is acting-chief officer. Captain D. J. Watson, late secretary of the Merchant Service Guild, is in command of the steamer Boorai, which is proceeding from Australian ports to Genoa, and Marseilles. Captain C. WArthur, local agent for the Canterbury Steamship Oompany, is at present on holiday leave in Australia. Mr. U. S. JTLaren, second engineer ol the John, has left that vessel. Mr.. 11. J. Neville, purser of the Tarawera, came ashore her© yesterday in order to join the Mokoia. Mr. Brow, assists ant purser of the Tarawera, has been appointed pureer of that vessel.

A heavy sea was reported on the Greymouth . bar yesterday, consequently the Kamo, Kara, and To Amu have been hold up at that port. The Shaw-Savill mail- steamer Arawa has been fixed to leave for Lyttelton at noon to-day. ,

The Pateena, which has been relieving her, will return to. New Zealand this month. Messrs. Huddart. Parker end Co.'a new steamer Hohburn is cipected to reach port from : Bunbury, via southern ports, tomorrow. She will land 421,800 feet of timber and then proceed to Auckland, Subsequently the Hebburn will make two trips between Newcastle and New Zealand with coal. After that she will load New Zealand wool for Home. Mr. G. H. Scales, of Wellington, has chartered the Hebburn. It- is announced that tho Barber Line's chartered steamer- Thomis, which left New York for Australian ports a few days ago, is one of the vessels employed in. tho now service to New Zealand and Australia inaugurated by the Ghalistor and Suruga. Both these vessels visited Wellington recently. The Themis will be followed by the steamers Eatsuma and Storstad. Mr. G.. H. Scales is local agent for the new line. . • .
