MARIST BROTHERS' SCHOOL CONCERT
The annual concert of the Marist Brothers' School (Tiiorndon) was given in tlie Concert Chamber of the Town Hall last evening, the proceeds of which are to go to the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. An.interesting'prograinnie of songs', recitations, action songs, a display of Indian clubs, etc., was given, and tlie audience, which filled tho Chamber in every part, was most appreciative and demanded many encores. The part singing of. tho school is always a' feature,, and that of last" night in both parts of the programme was no exception to the general rule, tbe songs chosen being ';^ fc Southern Wind" and "Ring Out, Wild Bells. Solos were sung by Cyril Simpson ("Little Grey Home in the nest'), and Harold Trehey ("Sweet Vale of Avoca"). Clarence Appleton recited "The Arsenal at Springfield," and Fergus Reeves "Airs. Dugan's Discovery.';' Another recitation, "At Tel-el-Kebir," was given by. George Lacey. •The physical drill and t'hb display of Indian clubs by pupils w ; as excellent, and another ;tem *nat met with much appreciation was the ; bracketed number When Britain Calls" and the French hymn "Cantique du Voeu National," sung by pupils en masse, who also gave an action song, "The Instrumental Band."_ A military dance was given by Jack Fitzmaurice, with an accordion accompaniment by Mat. Sheil, and a duet, ."Whispering Hope," sung by .'Harold Trehey and Cyril,Simpson, the high soprano of the one boy being very sweet and clear. "Brian Boru's Address to his Army," a stirring call to the Irish heart, v was recited by tlie class, and a farce, "Mrs. Tubbins's Cat," in which the characters were taken by F. Watson (the landlady, Mrs. -Tubbing), Fergus Ree'ves (Pete, tho servant), and Cuirenco Popplcton (Timothy Tibbs, the lodger), .was the concluding item. The accompanists of the evening were Mrs. Emerson, L.T.C.L.j and Miss Cudby..The singing of the National Anthem ended a very interesting and excellent concert.
