Tho Kamo Springs Hotel, Vhich tlie j Whangarei Hospital Board proposed to purchase' as a. convalescent liome - for soldiers and: other purposes,' was completely destroyed by fire yesterday. The iiccnsee-owner, Jasper found a bedroom full of smoke at 5 a.m., and roused .his wife and tivo children and about six guests. The latter were sleeping upstairs. All were obliged to escape in their night attire, losing their personal effaits. Tho licensee lost' £150 worth of jewellery in the flames. Hie fire'is believed to have, been caused by a defective chimney. Insurances, are held with tho United' Insurance Company for £2400, but' the loss is estimated at double that sum. The i sanatorium' and baths escaped . through the wind suddenly, changing.
