ROYAL LIFE-SAVING SOCIETY
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual general meeting of members of tie Royal Life-saving Society was held at the Y.M.C.A. last evening, Mr. T. Ronayne, 1.8.0., presiding over a fair gathering of members. Mr. G V S. Hill (chairman of the society), in moving tho adoption of the report (already published) regretted a 'certain apathy on behalf" of the public in. connection with the very valuable work of the socioty. In view of the fact that tho Scliaefer method of lifesaving—the method adopted by the -floc'iety—is being used in the trenches in combating the effects of noxious gases, he thought the work of the society should he more generally recognised and supported b,y tho publio; not alone by the swimming fraternity, as was practically tho .case now. Mr. Hill thought the society should be congratulated on the year's work and he also mado reference to the splendid work of Mr. J. A. Duffy, the chief honorary instructor of the society. Mr. Duffy seconded the adoption of the report. The balance-sheet showed a I credit balance of £14 4s. 4d.

Wilson with the Royal Life-saving Society's diploma, 'lie being tho first Wellingtoniau to gain : tiie distinction. Medals were also -presented to the members of the team which. competed for tlie Wigram Shield at the swimming championships last year—Messrs. E. J. Deslarides, J. Sanderson, J. H. Kober, and F. J. Wilson. A letter was received from the Minister of Defeneo expressing appreciation of the society's offer to impart the Scliaefer method of resuscitation to tho troops now at Trentham, and asking for particulars of. how the instruction could be carried out.
