THE ANTI-GERMAN CRUSADE REMOVAL FROM PUBLIC OFFICES DEMANDED. By Toleiiuph—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, September 27. At a meeting of the metropolitan branches of the Political Labour League is was resolved to ask the Federal and State Governments that all enemy subjects be immediately removed from Federal, State, and municipal services: and that their property be confiscate*} and utilised for the upkeep of their dependents ; also that enemy subjects. be politically disfranchised forthwith. The Anti-Alien League is petitioning the Government to intern all enemy subjects naturalised or unnaturalised, prohibit them holding Crown positions, or to trade under titles concealing their identity. SMALLPOX AND RECRUITING. ENLISTMENTS SUSPENDED- IN ' ' NEWCASTLE. Sydney, September 27. Recruiting in the Newcastle district has bee'.i suspended owing to the outbreak of smallpox. EARLY CLOSING OF HOTEL BARS. NINE O'CLOCK MOVEMENT IN . ' SYDNEY. . Sydney, September 27. , The Temperance Alliance to urge the introduction of legislation giving effect to the Assembly resolution in favour ,of closing hotels at 9 o'clock, and to provide for a referendum at the next general elections on the subject of 6 o'clock closing. The Baptist Union has adopted a resolution in favour of the early closing of hotels, and pledged itself to the utmost efforts to obtain its enactment, and the furtherance of a campaign for the ultimate prohibition of the sale of liquor. FORTY-FOUR HOURS' WORK. BROKEN HILL MINERS' VOTE OUT REFERENDUM.. Sydney, September 26. ' A mass meeting of the Amalgamated Miners' Association at Broken Hill rejected a proposal to hold a referendum on the question of the forty-four hours' week. The meeting voted that the underground men should finish on Saturdays at 4 o'clock.
