Colonel. Tate, ; Officer Commanding Wellington Military District, was on ft visit to tho City yesterday from his headquarters (Palmerston. North). _ Sergt.-Major Johnson, who - lias occupied ' t'he position of recruiting officer in Wellington for some tinio, is being transferred to Taumarunui as area sergeant-major. ■Y slr: E.J. Healy, conductor of St. Mary of the Angels' Choir for the past seven and a half years, has resigned his position. His place will be filled by Mr. A. M'Donald, of. the Wellington Professional Orchestra, who enters upon his duties at the beginning of October. The Rev. L! Thompson, M.A., minister of the Carterton Presbyterian Church, has resigned owing to ill-health. His place is being taken by the Rev. G. Halliday. of Lansdowne. Mr. H. E. Gillespie, of Auckland, is at present in Wellington on business, and loaves by Paloona to-night. . Mr. E. Lythberg, of the Napier Post Office, has been transferred to Auckland.; Sergeant-Major Ritzema, of the Napier Defence Office, has received notice of his transfer to Palmerston North. ; Mr A. M. Pickford, Mayor of Devonport, is visiting AVellirigton and is staymg at. the Royal Oak Hotel. Corporal George L. Juno, who was reported as having been killed at the Dardanelles on August 7, was 21 years of age. He was bom in Masterton, and was a son of Mr. P. Juno, of that town. After leaving school his first appearance in public was as a jockey, when he rode his father's horse, Smithy, a .well-known -hurdle horse. Later on he was employed by tho Wairarapa Racing Club as an assistant to the caretaker of the racecourse, and it was from there lio joined the Main Expeditionary Force as a private. Whilo at the front ho was pro-moted-to Corporal. Ho.was a prominent footballer, aiid also a keon motor cyclist, and he rendored good service to tho Wairarapa Automobile Association by assisting them with their motor-cycle race meetings. At the last meeting of stewards of the Wairarapa Racing Club special mention was made of his loss.
