A SOLDIER'S LETTER
PROUD OF NEW ZEALAND WOMEN. The honorary secretary of the Mayoress's committee of the Countess of Liverpool Fund lias received tho following letter, from Mrs. Tayler, enclosing ono from lior husband, Lieutenant G. W. Tayler, in which lie expressed his great appreciation and that of the soldiers with him at the front of the work which' the women of New Zealand have been doing for tlicir comfort and relief. A pathetic interest is attached to tho_ soldier's letter, as his death in action followed very Bhortly after it had been written.
. Mrs. Taylor writes: "My. husband, Lieutenant G._W. Tayler, asked me to post to you the enclosed note, as lie had no other envelope. It was written 9nly a fortnight before he was killed in notion, after being exactly threo months, 111 the trenches. Please also accept.my thanks for the pleasure given by your committee; .more especially as lie had received none of the parcels sent by me. He said the heart .of tilie women ; _of New Zealand would glow with pride and pleasure to hear the remarks Of his men 011 what the women at, home were doing for them.'/ The enclosed letter from Lieutenant Tayler, written 011 July 25 from Anzac. Gallipoli, to the honorary secretary of the committee, is at follows'''The writer begs to acknowledge on tliis thirteenth Sunday in Gallipoli, to tho date and the day, the, useful and welcome pft from your committee. If you can lmagino a bath in two, pints of' water .with your soap and-the joyous feel of .the new and clean _ socks you will know how .joyful a soldier can be and how proud to think that our people at home work-to make us"* have, that comfort and joy. lam asking Mrs. Tayler to post this to you with my best, thanks, as one envelope is my all, and paper is nearly "non est."
