FRENCH CLUB
At tile meeting of the French Club oil Thursday, Captain Barclay gave an interesting lecture on "The Present Condition of Belgium." The lecturer' pourtrayed Belgium since the German invasion as a ruined country, the beautiful buildings iu the towns erected hundreds of years ago' now reduced to ruins. He dwelt on the devotion of the Belgian people, how in the midst of tlieir sufferings they wero determined tliero should he no peaoe 'till the invader was driven ftpm their country, and expressed the hope that plioraiix-liko that country would soon rise from , its ashes, ana again, be a country justly renowned for its indus-try-and civilisation. A. hearty vote of . thanks was accorded Captain Barclay. Mention must be made also of fine, t piano piece played by Miss Rowley, and Madame de Cleuno's singing of tie "Herodiade."
