WELLINGTON CRICKET ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL MEETING OF DELEGATES. The annual meeting of delegates to f ? Cricket Association was' ... ' as ' i iught, Mr. M. F. Luckie pre--Biding: The,annual report and the bal-ance-sheet. .Tvero adopted. . ' ~ Tll ° . annual;- report stated \ that tho mcomo for .t-ho year exceeded fclie expenditure by £116 19s. '■ B ? laJlcni S' this with last years' •deficit, of £121 ss. 3d., there as now A margin of assets over , liabilities of '£25 14s. 7d. It is not improbable, liowover, that some of tho outstanding accounts will have to-be written off, and this would probably result in just clearing off, the debt. As tli o deficiency stood at,£43o two years ago this stato' .of affairs must b©.considered as very .satisfactory. The; profit 1 of £146 19s. ■ 10d; .is. really better than it appears on paper, as tho club's ■ subscriptions were reduced to, the extent of £40 in the aggregate, and wet;weather on.tho Saturday of _the first Plunket/Shield match .played in- Wellington.; deprived-tile association of '-what .would! otherwiso have been ;•» substantial',, gate, possibly £50. In last, year's report it was mentioned that if the list of- liouorary members could ,be. increased; to 300 the future > success^ -of the association would bo assured. . Tho .committee is still of that; opinion, and would urge /individual players, - ; who,;. after all, are the asso-ciation,-to make an effort to substantially increase the number of honorary members. The blot on the balance-sheet is the amount owing. to the association by clubs for fees. In moving. '.the adoption of the report, tho I chairman referred to'the satisfactory ■■ state of ithe finances, and expressed the opinion, that the improved position was due in a-large. measure to the .energy displayed by' Mr. C. Gf. Wilson in the position ofi chairman of the committee. Touching.reference was ma'do to the maiiy cricketers who bad fallen in battlo during past few months. The war, would, tho chairman pointed out, have its effect on cricket during the coming season by detracting public interest from the game and'by-reducing the personiiel, and careful administration would be necessary if the present satisfactory state of finance was. to be maintained. Election of officers for the; season resulted follows:—Patron, ■ His Excellency l tlie Governor (the Earl of Liverpool); president, tho Hon. Sir Francis Bell, K.C.; vice-presidents,' the Hon. A. L. Herdman, Dr. A. K. Newman, M P., • Dr. lloss, Professor Hnnter, Messrs. J. P. Firth, E. P. Bunny, W. E. Bethune, C..11, ,Smith, A. T. Bate, M. F. Luckie, iF. W. Christian, and R. A.. Wright, M.P.; vice-president to New, : Zsaland Crickot Council, the Hon. Sir Francis Bell, K.C.delegates to New Zealand Cricket Council, Sir Cecil Moon and Mr. 'J:/ Fanning; lion, secretary, Mr. G. F. Gibb; lion, treasurer, Mr. S. J. Wills; Management Committee, Messrs. C. G. Wilson, M. J. Crombie, F. A. Midlane, J. Fanning, W. S. Brice, H. E. Button, V. B. WilUs, said F. M,.Martin; hon. auditor, Mr. C.. E. Stevens. ~ Mr._ p. G. Wilson (chairmau of the conunittce) and- soveral other' delegates paid a tribute to the work of tho late secretary (Mr. ,E, M. Beecliey). during his two years of office. General regret was expressed at Mr. Beechey's inability to continue in office. Similar reference was made to the good work done by the treasurer (Mr. F. M. Martin), who was unable to accept nomination for a further term as he had enlisted for service abroad.. . .
