SCOTTISH REGIMENT
PRESSING FOR ITS FORMATION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston North, September 24. .'; An enthusiastic meeting of delegates was held here to-day to discuss the proposed form of the Scottish Regiment to go to. the front. Tile following- delegates were present: --Messrs., M'Kay (T'akapau), W. Ollipbant (Auckland), '• Charles Brown (Christchurch), W. H. Kilgour (Dunedin), : W. Gillespie (Masterton), Alexander Reid (Mangatainoka), T. S. Arcus (Waimarino); R., W. Raebunn (Ohakune), W. G. Murray, D. Moir : H. A. Martin,' K. Ferguson (Rangitikei), A. H. Rons (Dannevirke), J. Collingwood, E. H. M.'Cloud, D.-M'Lean (Feildiug).
'y.Mr. Gillespie said-the. idea was that they should go whole-heartedly for the formation :of a Highland Regiment, similar to Canada. One hundred and thirty-five circulars had been; sent out to -leading Scottish societies from Auckland to Bluff, 1 and nearly all replied in favour of the regiment being formed..' It" was decided that a deputation, con-sisting-of the Uiiited Caledonian Scottish and Highland Societies in New Zealand and representing the united Scottish.interests in tho Dominion, wait upon tho Minister of Defence with a Tequest that a kilted Tegiment, to be , known as the "New Zealand Scottish" bo equipped and dispatched' for active service : forthwith.,. .
