ACCIDENTS AND FATALUIES
WELL-KNOWN CITIZEN DROPS DEAD. Mr. E. G. Gaudiii, a well-knowfl figure, in the City, died suddenly iii Britain's chemist shop, Manners Street, at about 8 o'clock last night. 3lr. Gaiidin called in at the dispensary shortl.v before 8 o'clock and complained of feeling unwell, and was at the time gasping, for breath. He was given a restorative, and shortly after he made an effort to go outside, hut collapsed suddenly, and, falling 011 tho floor, expired. Dr. Hamilton Gilmer was called in and pronounced life extinct. Death is believed to have been due to heart failure. Tho late Mr. Gail din, who carried on tho business of a commission agent in the City, was a married man, 54 years of ago, and resided with his family in. Vogel Street. An inquest will he held. BODY FOUND ON MOUNT VICTORIA' The body of a man of about thirty, years of age .was. discovered at 1 the foot of Mount Victoria, near the Kilbimie tunnel, yesterday morning, by a tramway employee named Edward M'Connell. An examination of tho body showed a bullet wound in the forehead, while a revolver clutched, in tho hand told a talo of suicide. A flask of whisky and a glass were found alongside. Constablo M'Kclvie, who was summoned, removed the body to •. the morgue to await identification. I&tcr in the day the body was identified as that of Samuel Sloan, a bootmaker by trade, and residing with a confectioner named Matthew James Younger, at 203 Cuba Street. Younger, who identified: the body, said deceased had been' employed at Hannah's boot shop, and had a mother residing at Addington, Christchurch. Deceased, had left the shop in Cuba Street at about 7 p.m. on, Tuesday, and then appeared in good health. An inquest "will be held at a date vet to bo fixed. DEATH AFTER AN OPERATION. . A boy of 12 years, named- Leslie Taylor, son of Mr. A. J. Taylor, J.P.v farmer, of Tawa Flat, died from heart failure shortly after an operation ha been performed on Lim yesterday at tho Brougham Street Private Hospital. Tho operation, which had been carried out by Drs. M'Kenzie and Line for the removal of a growth, had been completed some three or four minutes when the assisting nurse noticed the patient's pulse failing. Restoratives were applied, but without avail.
An inquest will be held at a date yet to be fixed.
