Workmen were exploding dynamite to remove rocks in connection with city subway construction, when there was a cavc-in of pavements and sidewalks. A street car, with scores of .women and men proceeding to work, was buried, and the heavy flows of water and;.gas threatened to drown or suffocate tho imprisoned passengers; but polico and firemen entered the hole in the ground and rescued seventy persons, all badly injured, from tlio partlyburied car. . Seven persons aro already dead.
